Drinkable clean water resources are vital for human health, ecosystem balance and economic development. Increasing population, climate change and pollution worldwide are causing fresh water resources to deplete rapidly. While water scarcity poses a serious threat, especially in arid regions, groundwater is also decreasing due to excessive use in many countries.
Alternative water production is possible and is becoming increasingly important. Seawater treatment (desalination), rainwater collection, grey water recycling and atmospheric water collection technologies are among the methods used to meet the need for clean water. However, sustainable policies and advanced technology investments are required for these methods to become widespread.
In order to prevent a water crisis in the future, individual and social water saving measures should be taken, clean water resources should be protected and alternative water production technologies should be made more accessible.
